A Simple Plan for Peace in the Middle East
Well, the blame Israel first crowd is at it again. First one ship is boarded, after attempting to run a blockade which was established by Israel with international support, and several lives were lost when the supposedly peaceful passengers assaulted the Israeli commando team, attempting to wrench their guns away, throwing Molotov cocktails, and beating them with iron rods. Now a second (or seventh) ship is inbound with more such "humanitarian" aide for the Palestinians, despite the fact that Israel was already sending humanitarian aide--in fact had increased it by 180 percent--to Palestinians in the Gaza before all this occurred, and continues to do so.
My friend and co-blogger on this site, J.C. Sanders, has already beat me to the punch with a humorous post, albeit on his other blog. I've got to admit, though, that the funniest part of the post was the (serious) comment which it drew. The world has turned its back on Israel, and any attempt to look at this from any viewpoint other than "Israel is evil, Hamas are just victims, Israel should be punished severely" is treated as "Zionist," no matter how reasonable. What does the US gain in the region, besides "another" ally which doesn't want to see America pushed into the same sea as Israel? Oh, but how cruel it is to support those Jews; how dare they attempt to defend themselves in any way? Remember back when they first started building the wall? Then as now the international community in general and the "pro-Palestinian" community--consisting mostly of Muhammedans who want to see the rein of Islam extended over the earth, by force and subjugation if necessary--in particular decried this project. Never mind that Hamas has fired thousands of rockets and mortars from Gaza into Israel in the last two years alone. Never mind that Israel has been attacked by coalitions from numerous (Islamic) countries in the region on two occasions (and this does not count the Six-Day War), once just days after being established as a country.
I have heard it said several times that Israel is a destabilizing presence in the region, and that there can be no peace in the entire vast Middle East so long as this one little nation remains. Since the international community is so adamant in backing everyone save Israel, it has become clear that this little country has no allies save the US and possibly Britain. But the international community--be it the Arabs, the French, the Russians, and especially the Germans--surely does not want to force Israel in to subservience or to see the entire Jewish population exterminated. Surely one Holocaust was enough.
Therefore, I have a proposal for peace in the Middle East. Since the Palestinians only want a country of their own, let's let them have it. And since they only want land currently held by Israel, let's let them have all of it. We will displace the entire community--all 7.5 million Israelis--to another location. Sure, they'll no longer live in their ancestral home and will lose their holy sites, but most American can sympathize with the former and most (if not all) Christians can sympathize with the latter.
Where can they be moved to? How about Europe? In fact, they can be settled between France and Germany, since these two countries at least have shown the most support for removing Israel from the Middle East, it is only fair that they provide the new land for these displaced Israelis to call their own. Not to mention, Israel should be perfectly safe between the two most peaceful countries in all of Europe. Everybody's happy: Israel can disarm and won't need to build a wall, the Palestinians get a new homeland, and France and Germany actually get to contribute to world peace.
